It wasn't to be for our Essendon 1st XI, who were denied by Footscray 1st XI on a day to learn from.
With the bat, we made 172; Footscray 1st XI made 6/174. Joshua Trembearth batted well for 47 off 110 balls with six fours. Liam Molloy added a useful 41 off 92 balls. Liam Mason was the pick of the visitors' bowlers with four for 21.
Nicholas McGuane grabbed two for 60. Our opponents' best with the bat was Jack Prestwidge, who made 42.
There are plenty of positives to take out of this one. We will be looking to get back in the winning column soon. We'll go again.
