It wasn't to be for our Essendon 1st XI, who were beaten by Melbourne 1st XI on a day to learn from.
First up, we made 9/262 from 50 overs. Joshua Trembearth passed fifty on the way to 72 off 99 balls with five fours and three sixes. Emerson White posted a half-century, making 60 off 57 balls with six fours and one six. Jonathan Merlo bowled well for Melbourne 1st XI, taking three for 51.
Our opponents knocked off the runs, finishing on 1/266 in 38.4 overs. The hosts' Farzan Chowna made a polished 120 not out. Blake Thomson made a classy 89 for our opponents, a well-deserved half-century.
Well played to the hosts.
